2022 AMPPCares: Volunteer Day in San Antonio

The 2022 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo began Saturday with early arrivals taking advantage of an opportunity to give back to the host city and community of San Antonio, Texas.

The AMPPCares project brought AMPP members together to volunteer at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children (SJRC). The SJRC operation assists children and families who have been affected by trauma, abuse, and neglect, and have been removed from their homes by the Department of Family and Protective Services.

As part of the event, AMPP’s volunteers performed gardening services at the St. Jude’s site on Saturday, with duties including  mulching, bush clearing, and picking up trash and debris at the ranch’s green area.

Members, sponsors, and AMPP staff are also welcome to donate items needed by the institution throughout the upcoming conference. The items will be collected in strategic locations at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center, and staff and volunteer members will donate them to the SJRC by the end of the week. Desired donation items include:

  • Hygiene items: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and hair brushes
  • House items: bowls, plates, silverware, cups (no mugs), pots, pans, big bowls, and blenders
  • “Bed in a bag”—Twin size
  • Snack and drinks for point store—Chips, candy, sodas
  • Gift Cards—Visa, Walmart, Ross, Target, HEB
