Tuesday Features Symposia on Preventing, Mitigating Asset Corrosion

Tuesday, March 21 marks the third full day, and second weekday, of the 2023 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo, which will host a number of exciting and informative symposia for attendees. Among the notable symposia taking place on Day 3 of the conference:

Corrosion in Nuclear Systems: Chaired by Sandeep Chawla of DNV USA, Inc. and vice-chaired by Sheewa Feng of Hanford Laboratory Management and Integration, LLC, this symposium will feature technical papers on materials-related issues encountered in the generation of nuclear power energy in light, heavy, and advanced nuclear power reactors and plants. Papers may cover the following topics: degradation mechanisms for materials and components in service; materials manufacturing and materials development techniques for current and advanced materials for nuclear power generation; and materials issues related to long-term plant operations and nuclear waste.

Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion: Chaired by Jason Lee of Naval Research Laboratory and vice-chaired by Jodi Wrangham of Baker Hughes, this symposium features technical papers on microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), defined as corrosion affected by the presence or activity of microorganisms. The diagnosis, mitigation, and monitoring of MIC will be detailed across multiple industries, including oil and gas, water and wastewater, and maritime. Concentration on any aspect of MIC, including microbiological, chemical, electrochemical, and material science may be included, as well as causal mechanistic and preventative studies.

RIP—Materials Protection and Performance in Construction and Infrastructure: Chaired by David Bastidas of the University of Akron and vice-chaired by Peter Ault of Elzy Technology Corp., this RIP symposium aims to gather current research and future trends on materials protection and performance in construction and infrastructure sectors. Topics related to corrosion prevention and coatings application in the broadened area of corrosion of steel in porous media, building, construction, architecture, and infrastructure are highly encouraged.
