Coming Clean: Power Washing Assets With Tethered Drones

Corrosion and coating professionals aren’t in the dark about using drones on jobsites. Inspections, in particular, are more commonly completed with robotic aerial systems these days, especially on assets that include heights and hard-to-reach areas. Bridges, water towers, and other industrial assets can benefit from the use of drones.

But there are other potentially new-to-you systems and uses that may help on prepping your next project. Robert Dahlstrom of Apellix will be presenting a talk called “Using Industrial Tethered Power Wash Drones for Corrosion Prevention and Extension of Coating Life for Industrial Assets,” where he will discuss the use of drones to spray chemicals, take measurements, power wash up to 3,000 psi (20.7 MPa) with 8–10 GPM (30.3–37.9 LPM), and maybe even spray paint.

According to the session overview, the presentation will include the discussion of “these novel power wash systems and identify their uses, benefits, limitations, constraints, and disadvantages. We also discuss how these systems help protect your assets and can fit into your operations and maintenance asset management practices,”.

Stop by room 213 in the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on Thursday to hear directly from the drone experts. The session will take place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. local time.
