Help Students by Volunteering with AMPPCares

When you have a few minutes to spare during the AMPP Conference + Expo, put your volunteer spirit to use and stop by AMPPCares to build Corrosion Toolkits to benefit New Orleans-area students.

The AMPPCares station will be open Tuesday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. near the Student Quad on the exhibit hall floor.

Volunteers do not need to sign up. Just drop by between as your schedule allows. It only takes a couple of minutes to build one cKit, so if you only have a short amount of time, you can still contribute.

Members from the Southeast Louisiana Chapter along with AMPP staff will be there to help orient builders through the process.

Corrosion Toolkits, or cKits, provide an interactive way for students to learn corrosion concepts. They contain:

  • Alligator clips
  • AA battery and battery holder
  • Electrode set
  • Digital voltmeter
  • Teachers guide

The goal is to build and pack 1,000 cKits. The primary objective is to give back to the New Orleans community for hosting the AMPP Annual Conference. One hundred cKits, a $5,000 value, will be left with the SELA Chapter for local distribution to teachers. The remaining cKits are used for EMERG’s summer programming.

In addition to building cKits, conference attendees have an opportunity to donate financially for individual cKits by contributing $50 or more via a QR code visible on event signage. For every $50 donation, AMPP will provide a sticker that can be signed by an individual donor or in the name of a company.
