Sunday Workshops Help Kick Off AMPP Conference + Expo

Get your AMPP Conference + Expo off to a great start by attending an informative Sunday workshop.

Charles Stephenson Brown and Chris Farschon of Greenman-Pedersen Inc. (GPI) will get things started with the Coatings 101 Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Room 219. This workshop is for attendees who want to get a basic understanding of a typical protective coatings project, from understanding the need for a project to the unique challenges of the industrial coatings industry.

Safety is at issue as Greenman-Pedersen’s Brown returns with the Fall Protection Workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. in Room 220.

This workshop will review what owners, contractors, and safety personnel need to know in order to comply with the OSHA 1926.500 Fall Protection regulations.Brown will discuss regulations and safe operating procedures for aerial lift/bucket/under bridge access equipment; definitions of fall prevention, fall restraint and fall arrest; the different requirements of fall protection; recognizing hazards regarding fall protection; inspection of fall arrest equipment, anchorage points and training requirements. A discussion on various types of safety equipment for fall protection will complete the workshop.

In the workshop Water Hammer, Water Main Breaks, CUI, SCC, and Explosions in Piping, Robert A. Leishear, Ph.D., will discuss how water hammers induce thousands of cracks per foot in pipes and compress flammable gases to ignite explosions in piping systems.

From 1 to 5 p.m. in Room 225, Leishear will review the basic principles of water hammer, dynamic stresses, cracking, fracture mechanics, and crevice corrosion cracking. The implications of this new technology and ground-breaking research are discussed with respect to gas pipeline explosions, water main breaks, and piping failures.
