Tuesday’s Forums Include Pipeline Safety, CUI Discussions

A vast spectrum of learning opportunities are available Tuesday at the 2024 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo. Several forums will be offered for attendees to choose from, including the following.

The “More Zinc Coatings for Asset Protection by Land and Sea” forum is presented by Bernardo Duran with International Zinc Association and Alana Fossa with American Galvanizers Association, and will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. local time in room 217.

This forum will discuss different steel and concrete applications and case studies on land and at sea where specifiers chose zinc coatings for corrosion protection. It is the second volume of the series and will include presentations from multiple experts on zinc coatings, including thermal spray zinc metallizing, liquid zinc-rich coatings, and hot-dip galvanizing. You’ll also learn about the most current processing techniques.

The “Pipeline Safety Forum” is presented by Kevin Garrity and Alan Mayberry, and will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. local time in room R02.

PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) and AMPP members play a critical role in protecting the public from potential catastrophic failures of liquid/gas pipelines. Join policymakers, regulators, and industry experts for a discussion on how PHMSA and other agencies address corrosion in pipeline safety. The forum will provide both a regulator and industry perspective on best pipeline safety practices and the latest developments. The PHMSA Forum is your chance to hear an annual update from key PHMSA officials and discuss proposed rules that may be considered in 2024. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from fellow members and stakeholders on the latest trends in pipeline safety.

The “Minimize the Risk of Corrosion Under Insulation—A Complete Systems Approach” forum is presented by Scott Sinclair and Johns Manville, and will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time in room 213.

This session will include presentations from industry experts on the elements of a complete systems approach to minimizing the risk of corrosion under insulation (CUI). Areas of discussion will include substrate coatings, corrosion inhibiting insulation chemistry, water repellent/hydrophobic insulation, metal jacketing with multi-directional flow pattern embossing and system inspection and maintenance. There will also be a panel discussion with engineers from leading owner/operators and engineering design firms during which you can ask the experts your questions on this critical issue.

These are just a few of the many forums available on Tuesday. Be sure to check the conference schedule, so you don’t miss out on any of the interesting learning opportunities we have planned.
