Wednesday Symposia Explore Critical Coating, Corrosion Challenges

Wednesday’s symposia at the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo 2025 in Nashville will tackle some of the most pressing issues in the coatings and corrosion industry.

“Coatings Failures” will examine failures on a variety of substrates, structures, and in a variety of industries for the purpose of advancing the knowledge and awareness of users, owners, contractors, manufacturers, and technical professionals. Examples include case studies concerning paint and coating failures related to surface preparation, application, formulation, and more. Papers include “Failure to Flawless: Accelerating Quality with Electrochemistry” and “Microcracking of Fusion-Bonded Epoxy—a Rare Phenomenon.” It runs from 8:00-11:30 a.m. in Room 104E.

In “Corrosion in the Biofuel & Biomass Industry,” presenters will share their experiences related to material selection, corrosion issues, and corrosion mitigation in the biofuels industry. This symposium will cover both the production of biodiesel and bioethanol. Topics include “Corrosion Performance of Stainless and Carbon Steels in Pyrolysis Oil: The Role of Acid Number on Corrosion Rates” and “Know Your Enemy: A True Reflection on Testing in Renewable Feedstocks.” The symposium runs from 8:00-10:30 a.m. in Room 104D.

A two-part symposium, “Oil Refining Industry Corrosion,” will feature technical papers on corrosion and materials issues within the refining industry. Topics include case studies, research, materials/coatings performance, damage mechanisms, and failure analyses. Papers to be presented include “Five Reasons Why Your Intrusive Corrosion Sensors Are Old Technology,” “Design Aspects of Chemical Injection Systems in Crude Distillation Unit Overhead Section—A Case Study,” and “Sulfur and Naphthenic Acid Interactions in a Snapshot of Refinery Distillates.” This symposium goes from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00-5:00 p.m. in Room 105A&B.

These sessions are just a snapshot of the vast range of educational content being offered this week. The complete conference schedule is available here.
