New Learning Opportunities Available at Sunday’s AMPP Forums

Some exciting learning opportunities are being offered Sunday at the 2024 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo. Several forums will be available to choose from, including the following.

The “Electrochemical Techniques for Measuring Corrosion” forum will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time in room 228.

Several topics will be presented by Dr. Jeremy Moloney with ChampionX, Dr. Fernando Farelas with Luna Labs. The primary objectives of this session are (1) To facilitate effective use of electrochemical techniques for corrosion measurement and monitoring (2) To increase the understanding of some of the subtle issues that arise when using electrochemical techniques in corrosion and corrosion control. There will also be an Introduction to Polarization Resistance and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy presented by Dr. Jacob Ketter with Gamry Instruments, Conducting Potentiodynamic Sweeps in Weak Acid Systems presented by Dr. Bruce Brown with Ohio University, Electrochemical Noise Analysis for Monitoring Localized Corrosion, presented by Dr. Junsoo HAN with Sorbonne University, and Multi-Electrode Systems presented by Dr. Lietai Yang with Corr Instruments.

The “Coating & Lining Failures: Understanding Common & Unusual Causes of Premature Failures. Learning How to Systematically Solve Them When They Occur” forum is being presented by Michael O'Brien with MARK 10 Resource Group, Inc., and it will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. local time in room 222.

Coating and lining failures are very costly, but most are preventable. Learn how to avoid premature coating failures by understanding the common causes as shown in over 35 different actual coating failures. When coating failures do occur, it is important to know how to honestly, objectively, and systematically investigate them. This informative and practical seminar will provide the tools necessary to understand how to prevent failures and how to investigate them when they do occur.

The “Concrete Reinforcement: Metallic and Nonmetallic Options for More Durable Concrete Solutions” forum is being presented by Stephen Sharp with Virginia Department of Transportation and Neal Berke with Tourney Consulting Group, and it will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. local time in room 220.

This topic will cover the pros/cons of metallic (steels including stainless and coated) and nonmetallic (fiber reinforced polymer [FRP]) options that can be used to reinforce concrete and make it more corrosion resistant, and thus more durable.

These are just a few of the many forums available on Sunday. Be sure to check the conference schedule, so you don’t miss out on any of the interesting learning opportunities we have planned.
