Women of AMPP Forum Highlights Leadership and Mentorship

By Rebecca A. Bickham, Editor-in-Chief of Materials Performance (MP) magazine

As one of the marquee events of the 2026 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo in Houston, Tuesday’s Women of AMPP Breakfast and Forum empowered all in attendance.

Alan Thomas, CEO of the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), delivered opening remarks in which he recognized the women in his life, both personally and professionally. “I’m blessed to work with some of the most talented women I’ve ever met in my life, and I hope to continue to do so as long as they’ll have me,” Thomas said.

The forum was moderated by Rachelle Rigby, and a panel of women in the industry took turns answering poignant questions posed by the audience. It was truly a conversation that celebrated leadership, resilience, and the evolving role of women in the corrosion and materials protection industry.

Together, they shared candid insights into their career journeys, the challenges they’ve navigated, and the opportunities they see shaping the future of our industry.

Kimberly-Joy Harris, Chair of the AMPP Board of Directors, closed out the forum by encouraging those in attendance to participate in mentorship opportunities and support one another — especially through mentorship and inclusion — to strengthen our industry; empower future professionals; and drive innovation to meet growing global challenges.

“This morning’s Women of AMPP Breakfast and Forum, our largest yet, reinforced something I believe deeply: growth comes from staying uncomfortable and being willing to change,” said Rebecca Griebe, Senior Director of User Experience at AMPP. “The conversation around the room highlighted the importance of mentors and the power of leaning into your strengths to create meaningful impact.”
