Discover New Research in AMPP’s Annual Student Poster Session

By Sammy Miles, Managing Editor-in-Chief of CORROSION journal

Sponsored by BP, the annual AMPP Student Poster Session kicks off on Monday evening with the opening of the Exhibit Hall. This session features student projects of both undergraduate and graduate levels, which will be evaluated by an industry panel of judges.

The student posters are divided into three categories, which include the Fontana category (focusing on corrosion engineering); the Pourbaix category (focusing on corrosion science); and the Herro-Appleman category (focusing on applied materials protection technology). The posters will be available for viewing during Exhibit Hall hours.

Students will be giving short presentations to judges and attendees that visit the poster session during judging hours on Monday and Tuesday (March 16 and 17).

During an award ceremony on Wednesday, March 18, the first-, second-, and third-place student posters in each of the three categories will be announced, along with the top three undergraduate posters — which will receive the David Shifler Undergraduate Award. Winning students are awarded monetary prizes and will be invited to write an open access poster letter published in CORROSION journal.

Students will be presenting at their posters on Monday from 5:00–7:30 p.m. local time and on Tuesday from 12:00–2:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at the stage next to the poster session.
